What is a Preserve?
Preserves are properties that the Land Bank has purchased outright to care for in perpetuity. Preserves often provide public access in the form of rustic trails, shoreline access, or wildlife viewing areas. Preserves also help protect the wonderful array of plants, animals, and habitats that make the islands unique.
More information, driving directions, and maps for individual preserves are available by clicking on and exploring the county-wide and island maps to the left, or from the Land Bank’s property list.
When you visit: • Stay on designated trails
• Daytime and pedestrian use only, unless otherwise marked
• Leash your dog
• Take nothing
• Leave nothing
Sometimes, the Land Bank purchases property outright with the intention of reselling it through the Conservation Buyer Program. Before any property is resold, public meetings are held to discuss the options and issues related to future uses of the property.
