Fee-Simple Acquisitions

San Juan Island
Erickson Property
The Erickson property sits in the heart of the town of Friday Harbor. The agricultural guild has prioritized this property as its preferred site for a permanent farmers’ market. The property consists of approximately .35 acres and includes the historic Friday Harbor Brick and Tile Building. The Land Bank has offered to partner with the Guild and the town to purchase this property, to create the new site for the market, and to restore and maintain the structure, and provide a focal open space in the downtown core.

Mount Ben Preserve II
This property is located on Mt. Dallas and is adjacent to Mount Ben Preserve. The property consists of approximately 12.65 acres of undeveloped forestland and open meadows. It is currently owned by the SJ Preservation Trust. The Land Bank would like to acquire the fee interest in this property from the Trust to protect its outstanding views, forest and meadow habitats, and opportunities for public access. The Trust would retain a conservation easement interest.

Buck Property
The property is located north of Beaverton Valley Road and east of Barnswallow Way and consists of approximately 50 acres in two parcels. The Buck property encompasses the western reaches of Beaverton Valley Marsh and adjacent uplands. The marsh is the largest class I wetland in San Juan County and has been the focus of Land Bank protection and restoration efforts for nearly 10 years. The Land Bank owns the 135-acre Beaverton Marsh Preserve along Roche Harbor Road and is attempting to negotiate a conservation easement on a property adjacent to both the preserve and Buck. Fee acquisition of approximately 30 acres of the property and Conservation Easement purchase on the additional acreage will provide the Land Bank with much greater ability to proceed with restoration efforts throughout the valley.

Guard Property
The property is located north of San Juan Valley Road and west of Douglas Road and consists of approximately 20 acres in one parcel. The Guard property is a highly visible open field that has been part of the Guard family farming operations for many years. The parcel is adjacent to two other properties with existing Land Bank conservation easements. Should this project succeed, it would create a contiguous protected area of prime farmland over more than 250 acres in San Juan Valley.
